CoolSpools

Upgrading

Important Notes for existing CoolSpools Users intending to install Version 5

If you are currently running CoolSpools Version 2, Version 3 or Version 4 in production, and you plan to install a later version of CoolSpools, you must read the notes below before upgrading.

We recommend strongly that all production applications are re-tested thoroughly using Version 5 in your development environment before you switch over to running Version 5 in your production environment. Testing should include checking output for changes.

CoolSpools Version 5 and the earlier versions of the product are separate licensed programs and install into different product libraries. It is therefore possible to run two or more versions of CoolSpools on the same system at the same time. This makes it simple to test Version 5 while still running an earlier version live: you simply need to call the commands in a different library.

Whilst we take every care to ensure that new versions of CoolSpools are, so far as possible, backwards compatible with earlier versions, it is your responsibility to ensure that a new version of the software produces the same results as the previous version in your environment with the same parameters.

Please note in particular that the default action of some of the new format-specific commands introduced with Version 5 differs from that of the CVTSPLSTMF command. You cannot simply replace a call to CVTSPLSTMF with a call to the equivalent format-specific command and expect the same results.

For example, by default the new CVTSPLPDF command selects text from the spooled file for use as exit program parameters, bookmarks, split criteria etc. according to different rules from those used by default by the CVTSPLSTMF command. You may therefore need to modify your command parameters in order to achieve the same results as before with the new command.

By installing Version 5 you signify your acceptance of the terms and conditions of the software license agreement.

Refer to the Version 5 User Guide for further information.

You can tell which version(s) of CoolSpools you have installed by doing WRKLICINF and referring to the table below:

Licensed Program Id Version Product Library
2CVTSPL CoolSpools V2 CVTSPLSTMF
3CVTSPL CoolSpools V3 CVTSPLV3R1
4CVTSPL CoolSpools V4 CVTSPLV4R1
5CVTSPL CoolSpools V5 CVTSPLV5R1

Version 5 License Keys

Version 5 of CoolSpools is available free of charge to customers who have paid their initial purchase invoice and who are either in their first year since purchase (and therefore on their free maintenance period) or who have paid their latest annual maintenance invoice.

Please read the important notes before upgrading from an earlier version of CoolSpools.

However, in order to run Version 5 you will need a new license key. Simply e-mail sales@ariadnesoftware.co.uk requesting a key for Version 5 of CoolSpools and, so long as your maintenance payments are up to date or not yet due, we will send you a key. Please quote your system serial number(s) and processor group code(s) in your e-mail.

Without a license key, CoolSpools Version 5 will allow you 30-days grace period usage and will then no longer run.

If you have not paid your annual maintenance invoice, and if you need longer than 30-days to test Version 5, we will, on request, send you a temporary license key to extend the trial period.
